Young Designers Shaping the Future of Urban Logistics

Earlier this spring, we shared news about the student architecture and design competition hosted by ALFA 3. The competition attracted interest from students and offered them the opportunity to showcase their talent, creativity, and ability to respond to current challenges in logistics and urban infrastructure.

Adéla Barabášová, winner of the Delivery Hubs Design category

Today, we're excited to bring you an interview with the winner of the Delivery Hub Design category—Adéla Barabášová. A second-year Industrial Design student at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Adéla impressed us with her thoughtful and practical approach.

How did you find out about the competition?

Adéla Barabášová

"I actually found out about it through my school. It was assigned as a project for one of my classes, and we worked on it for the entire semester."

Do you regularly think about your surroundings and how to improve them?

"I do, yeah. Sometimes I just notice things in my environment that don't really make sense—whether it's public spaces that are poorly designed or safety issues. Litter and pollution are also big problems for me. In my own designs, I always try to think things through carefully so that they function well and feel intentional."

Winning design of the delivery hub

Delivery hub where parcel lockers of logistics companies would be located

Had you ever worked on a similar project before?

„No, this was a completely new experience for me. It was the first time I focused on something related to architecture, and I really enjoyed it."

Could you give us a brief overview of your project?

"My project is a delivery hub that would house different parcel lockers, like Zásilkovna or Alzabox. My main goal was to focus on simplicity and practicality, both in terms of appearance and production. The idea was to create something that wouldn't disrupt the environment and would remain affordable. The key feature is its modularity—the hub can be expanded with additional sections placed side by side. It’s also a prefabricated design, which makes it easier to transport and install. For the finishing, I added a wood exterior to create a nice, natural contrast. The hub utilizes solar panels for energy and features a camera and LED lighting for enhanced security at night. It also has a shelf for people to unpack their packages right there and even an option to connect with NextBike bicycles."

What got you interested in the topic of parcel lockers?

"I think this topic is really relevant and will become even more important in the next few years. Like a lot of people, I find that parcel lockers often look unaesthetic and can be an eyesore. That’s why I tried to create a solution where the lockers are hidden within a structure, making the entire hub look more universal and integrated."

What was your impression of ALFA3?

"I was really impressed. The company left a very positive impression on me, thanks to the friendly employees and the way the company operates. It’s a modern company that’s constantly evolving."

We want to thank Adéla for her time and once again congratulate her on her well-deserved win!
