This number shows just how important automated parcel terminals have become in modern logistics.

Our long-term cooperation is not only about steadily expanding the network, but also about improving technology and design. The latest generation of lockers has a cleaner look and offers better protection against tough winter conditions, such as snow or ice. A major advantage is their above-average reliability, made possible by the consistent use of the same hardware and software. Thanks to this, even off-grid lockers perform very well in real-world conditions.

Environmental aspects also matter, as installations powered by solar panels and batteries help reduce emissions and support sustainable last mile delivery.
Building an OOH Network is a Logistics Puzzle
We spoke with Jan Kliner, OOH Manager at GLS Czech Republic, about strategy, challenges, and the future of locker delivery.
There are currently around 15,000 parcel lockers in the Czech Republic. What is the key factor for GLS CZ when choosing a location, and how does the design of Alfa 3 lockers play a role in this?
"Today, it is increasingly difficult to find suitable locations. However, thanks to Alfa 3 solar lockers, we are much more flexible – we can place them practically anywhere because we are not dependent on an electricity connection. At the same time, the high-quality surface finish and overall durability allow us to install them in more exposed locations, always in compliance with legislation and the Code for Placing Lockers."
What role do hardware and software reliability play in the fastest and most cost-effective delivery of thousands of shipments?
"The foundation of success is a functional network. The lockers must be in operation 24/7, which is ensured with the lockers from your production. At any given moment, we have a maximum of 1% of lockers out of service, most often due to vandals. Thanks to the robust construction, however, usually only the outer part is damaged, not the theft of the shipment."
As a manager, what is most important for you to know so the network runs without outages?
"I need information in the shortest possible time so that we can react immediately – ideally while the customer or courier is still at the locker. Last year, we managed to introduce remote access even for solar lockers, thanks to which we solve most problems instantly and remotely. For us, it is essential that the customer does not leave the locker disappointed."
The e-commerce market is changing at lightning speed. How do you evaluate Alfa 3's ability to adapt to your specific requirements?
"Customers today want constant overview and convenience. The response to these needs is the new generation of the FLEX locker, which offers a modern touchscreen with minimal energy consumption. By participating in development and testing, GLS now has a device at its disposal that precisely meets our operational and customer needs."
What is your biggest challenge for this year?
"We want to expand the network to a target number of 3,000 lockers. As the volume of shipments grows, the key is efficiency – we want to maximize the simplification of the insertion process for couriers and the collection process for customers. This is also important due to the growing popularity of label-free logistics, which people are using more and more often."
